Foods For Your Moods

We all have days that just don’t go our way and all we want is some ice cream or chocolate. This is normal, they’re comfort foods but you may be surprised at some other foods that can boost your mood. So here are my personal top 5 favourite foods to make you happier!

#1) Coconut

Not only does coconut taste great, it’s a great way to stay happy! Coconut has triglycerides. These are fats that help your mood and promote brain health. You do have to be a little careful with coconut though as come coconut products such as sweetened coconut milk or coconut based desserts can be very high in sugar. You should try to stick with natural coconuts.

#2) Honey

Honey is pretty much the perfect mix between sweet and healthy.  Honey can increase serotonin and dopamine in the brain which are both chemicals that can increase your levels of happiness. Honey is great to add as a natural sweetener to many drinks and dishes and is sure to boost your mood.honey comb.jpg.838x0_q67_crop-smart

#3) Green Tea

Although green tea isn’t actually a food, it sure is good for you and your happiness. In green tea, you can find lots of Theanine, which is known to lower stress and anxiety levels and elevate your mood. Green tea also tastes great and is a good way to get in lots of water.shutterstock_120114397-2

#4) Walnuts

Walnuts are not only tasty, they are an ideal snack to improve your mood. Walnuts are filled with vitamins that fight fatigue, stress, anxiety and irritability. Walnuts are also very rich in Omega 3’s which not only help to fight depression and anxiety but they also have great physical health benefits.  They can help improve eye, heart, bone and joint health. So if your looking for a healthy filling snack, grab some walnuts.

#5) Chocolate

Chocolate is definitely my favourite food on this list and I bet many of you love it too. While i’m sure we all know chocolate is delicious, you may not know about all the benefits of it. Dark chocolate is very high in magnesium which helps to calm muscles and reduce anxiety.  It also increases the production of endorphin which are chemicals in the brain that make us feel happy.
